The Story

The third series began with a bang, with an episode all about Teddy Foresman. This is the episode in which Teddy is elevated to one of the most important characters in Pete and Pete. It introduces some legendary catchphrases (like "Excelentay") and the immortal soul shake. The story is based on the theme that people can really irritate you when you spend too much time with them. We've all experienced something similar but in The Trouble With Teddy this is taken to new heights. From the minute Teddy gets the basketball stuck in the hoop, we know Pete's idea to let Teddy stay at his house is not going to work. Like he says, "How could I know I was in for the worst time of my life"

At the first Wrigley family dinner (dairy night - complete with Dad dressed as a giant cheese), everything seems to be fine and Teddy is settling in perfectly. Pete ironically looks forward to spending some time bonding with Teddy and their first port of call is speedwalking. Things quickly  start to go down hill after this. After "helping" Pete get a date with Diane Sinsky he soon undoes his good work by making himself a third wheel with Pete and Diane. Diane has no problem at all with Pete.  It's Teddy she has the problem with. Pete soon decides that "Teddy was a scab on my life that needed picking off". Late night spy tactics don't work so Teddy is ditched onto Dad and his car, but Teddy's advanced knowledge of the oil line and fan belt make sure that this idea doesn't work. Then it seems Pete has found the answer when Teddy is handed over to Mum in the garden. But he is so grateful for the gardening tips that he leaves a 12 page thankyou letter on her metal plate with the help of a giant magnet. All sorts of heavy duty kitchen utensils are attracted to her head at high speeds after this. The last hope is Little Pete who has now become a hunter gatherer

Whether it was the pollen count or staring for so long at all those stars that had transformed little Pete, no-one knows, but now Pete has become brother nature, living of the land. Teddy very quickly irritates Little Pete too and it's back to square one for big Pete. At the next family dinner the contrast is obvious to the first one: the Wrigleys are not happy with Teddy and decide to make a getaway. Little Pete has to choose: internal combustion (which isn't natures way), or Teddy. An easy choice in the end. Feeling guilty though, they all return to Teddy and although they con him with a story about having to get beans for Mexican Night, it's obvious that he's on to them. Or is he?

The next morning Teddy had gone, Pete thinks it's because of what he said about things not working out and feels guilty. Unlike Mom and Dad who are glad to see the back of him. They are soon made to feel guilty too, when Teddy sends them all sombreros for Mexican night. Pete eventually finds him in the Pizza House. Teddy reveals the reason why he left: him and beans just don't get along. The episode ends with Big Pete and Teddy firm friends again.

Mistakes and points of interest in this Episode

- The string is clearly visible on the tin opener which sticks to Mom's head after Teddy has magnetised her plate.

-When the Wrigleys make a get away from Teddy, it is clear the car is not moving (apart from perhaps someone standing   on the boot jumping up and down) because if you look in the top right hand corner you can see the trees and houses in     the background behind the car and they aren't moving.

- Teddy nearly stumbles into the grass verge when speed walking on the intro.

- The bald man that appears as an extra in many episodes appears again: in the guise of a worker at the pizzeria.

Miscellaneous information

Dave Martel revealed to us that the  basketball shot he made in the intro which is supposed to get stuck behind the hoop, actually went in. To get the effect of the ball being thrown behind the rim, they had to lodge it there, pull it out and run it in reverse for the final take.  Also Dave has told us that the speed walking he had to do in this episode was one of the most difficult things he had to do in Pete and Pete: he had problems getting it the way the directors wanted and had difficulty co-ordinating it with the truck horn. Also, we have visited the pizza house from this episode and it is the best pizza ever
