The nearest town to Ballure Holiday Homes is Ramsey. It is approximately half a mile from the cottages to the town shopping area.

Ramsey derives its name from our Viking heritage and translated means "Ravens Isle". The Vikings found the flat sandy shore of this sheltered bay to their liking when landing their long ships to invade our island. The photo below is a view of the town taken from your holiday accommadation.

Today, Ramsey has a population of approximately 6,500 and is the second largest town in the island. It is here that you will find the local post office, cottage hospital, police station, taxis bus and electric tram stations and library, which is also the tourist information office. Situated around a working harbour the town offers an interesting shopping area with pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes.

Ramsey boasts the Mooragh Park with picturesque gardens, children's play area, tennis courts, bowling green and crazy golf. Set in a site of 40 acres it contains a 12 acre boating lake and café and is an ideal setting to while away the day. There is a BMX track nearby. A modern indoor swimming pool and café are situated on the promenade. Just a little further from the centre of town is Ramsey Golf Club where you can go and play 18 holes beneath the slopes of North Barrule.

If walking is your relaxation then be sure to walk up to the Albert Tower. Overlooking Ramsey, this Tower was erected to commemorate the visit of Prince Albert to the town during an unscheduled stop owing to rough weather in 1847! Like Prince Albert we are sure you will enjoy the panoramic view across the northern plain of our Island.
